PRISCILLA AT 60
She still looks 25, but is it all down to £25,000 of help?
By Victoria Kennedy
SHE shot to fame as the fresh-faced 22-year-old who married the king of rock 'n' roll.

And Priscilla Presley seems to have aged just three years in the four decades since she wed Elvis.

The 60-year-old former Dallas and Naked Gun star turned up to launch her luxury bed-linen range in Sydney yesterday looking enviably slim and amazingly line-free.

So how has she managed to hold back the years? Harley Street plastic surgeon Jeya Prakash, who counts Jordan as a client, reckons it could be down to about £25,000 worth of remodelling surgery.

He says: "Priscilla has had what I would call a facial regeneration - she has had all her facial features worked on.

"Lip fillers cost around £600. Her nose is also much sharper and the tip is more defined, which indicates a nose job, at a cost of about £4,500. She has most likely had a brow lift, which costs £6,000.

"The cheeks have been raised. This indicates a facelift - a face and neck lift come to £6,000. She may also have had a chin implant at £4,000. Finally, she may have had whole-face laser or chemical peels to get rid of wrinkles and ageing spots. This would cost around £4,000 and lasts five years.

"She doesn't look anything like 60 - I think she looks more like 30. But the surgery is natural-looking and she doesn't look overstretched."

Premiere of Priscilla Presley linens draws huge crowd of Elvis fans [Mar. 1st, 2006|10:27 pm]
[Current Mood |busybusy]

Presley's fancy linen is sure to cotton on
Terry Brown
02mar06

WHAT'S in a name? A whole lot of pillow case sales when it's Presley; a bunch of books if it's Fonda.

Two of the world's most recognisable pension-aged women drew 1000 fans each in Melbourne yesterday.
And they couldn't have done it more differently.

Jane Fonda, 68, one-time khaki-wearing Leftie, packed Crown's Palladium at a $59-a-plate lunch.

And more than 28 years after Elvis left the building feet-first and 32 years after she'd divorced him, Priscilla proved the Presley surname was still king.

In town to spruik linen, the name drew Elvis fans to Myer, fans who didn't particularly need bamboo-fibre bedding or $320 Priscilla Presley quilt covers.

They bought $60 pillow cases they didn't need either, to get near the nearest thing to the King.

And old rockers with Elvis on their cars and Presleyesque names on kids' birth certificates.

Presley, 60, said that a passion for luxurious-but-affordable linen brought her half way across the world, adding "dust mites cannot survive bamboo".

Looking at her heavily made-up, super-smooth skin and oddly shaped lips, anything was possible.

"Is she gonna have some more kids?" a man yelled out.

"I can hardly take care of the two that I have," Presley answered, and it was hard to argue.

Her first, Lisa Marie, went and married Michael Jackson on her way to a quartet of husbands.

The next, Navarone, was booked for possession of magic mushrooms and dope smoking.

It would have dismayed Elvis, who hated druggies almost as much as he hated Lefties, and wanted to be a narcotics agent for Richard Nixon.

On a tour of FBI headquarters, Elvis even bagged Fonda for unspecified "unsavoury activities".

"Their ilk have a lot to answer for in the hereafter for the way they have poisoned young minds."

Times change things, though, despite Priscilla's appearance and the spooky way fans talked about Elvis in the present tense.

Asked if she would catch up with Fonda here, Presley said: "I've caught up with her already."

Caught up, it emerged, was a passing hello, celeb to celeb, in the airport's Chairman's Lounge.

Katherine Quinney got to the front of the Presley queue by virtue of a broken leg and a wheelchair.

Daughter Gracelyn, 4, was named to sound like Graceland; Elysha-Marie, almost 2, to reflect Lisa-Marie. Her first daughter, Presley, passed away.

"Because of the wheelchair, they put me at the front," she said.

"It's good that I fell down the stairs."

Maryanne Britt, who drives a Mercedes with the licence plate ELVIS1, came at 10.30am.

She showed off an Advice of Delivery form, confirming Elvis received a koala and letter she sent.

It was signed and dated "8-15-77", the day before the King died.

Maryanne wouldn't say what was in the letter, but it sounded hot.

"I thought I'd killed him, the poor bugger, I'd given him a heart attack," she said.

And a guy with slick hair and mutton chops showed off an Elvis wallet he'd just got signed.

"It's the closest you can get to Elvis," he said.

Priscilla: Presley Family is not Wacko [Mar. 1st, 2006|09:25 pm]

Presley family is not wacky: Priscilla

Priscilla Presley says she is offended by suggestions there is something wacky about her family.

Tabloid magazines this week labelled as "kooky kabuki" her daughter Lisa Marie's marriage to musician Michael Lockwood in Japan, with both wearing kimonos.

"It does offend me," Presley told AAP in Sydney.

"It was not wacky in any sense of the word because you appreciate a culture and you appreciate tradition, that is wacky for somebody to say that."

Lisa Marie and Lockwood exchanged vows in a traditional Japanese ceremony on January 22, both wearing traditional Japanese costumes.

It was a fourth marriage for Lisa Marie who has previously been married to Nicolas Cage, Michael Jackson and Danny Keough, the father of her two children.

Priscilla Presley walked her daughter down the aisle and gave her away.

"The wackyness isn't on our end," said Presley.

"I don't think we have ever been known to be wacky.

"Maybe having lived our whole lives in front of everyone, things might look that way but this was so well thought out and she is very happy."

Presley described Lisa Marie's wedding as "beautiful".

"The wedding was everything she wanted and the mood was so tranquil and very traditional in dress," she said.

Priscilla Presley arrived in Australia on Saturday for the worldwide launch of her bed linen range with Australian fashion designer Bruno Schiavi, titled The Priscilla Presley Collection.

The 60-year-old was married to Elvis from 1967 to 1973 and has two children, Lisa Marie with Presley and Navarone Garibaldi with partner Marco Garibaldi.

She acknowledged that Elvis, who died of a heart attack in 1977, was always going to be a big part of her life.

"It was such an impactful era that I think everyone feels they own a little bit of Elvis," she said after the launch at Sydney's inner city Myer department store.

"As far as separating myself, I can't really deny that was history and I was very much a part of history in that sense.

"It was a great time, a great era and a great loss."

As seen in Herald Sun News:

Priscilla Presley's range fit for a king

01mar06

BEING privy to the finest linens at Elvis Presley's Graceland is undoubtedly going to influence a girl.

So it was no wonder Priscilla Presley -- in Australia to launch her linens range with design partner Bruno Schiavi -- yesterday declared her range "fit for the King".
One of the world's most-famous widows hosted a catwalk show of her expensive collection of bed linens, cushions, towels and bath robes -- and there wasn't a leopard print or any blue suede in sight.

The range is as impeccably put together as the woman herself, who, at 60, looks best when she breaks her carefully maintained porcelain veneer with a giggle, as opposed to her media-wary smile.

Conceding her taste for luxury between the sheets stems from her Elvis days, she said that was her first introduction to finery and once she'd slept in fine linens, she couldn't go back.

The collection is top-end, but according to Presley, provides the best means for a good night's sleep.

Presley was in Sydney yesterday and will be in Melbourne today.

Priscilla, queen of the duvet

February 26, 2006
LOOKING trim and casual, rock 'n' roll queen Priscilla Presley jetted into Sydney yesterday to launch a signature range of linen.

Visit: Priscilla Presley arriving in Sydney last night
Presley, who walked her daughter, Lisa-Marie, down the aisle at her fourth wedding in Kyoto, Japan, recently, is believed to be taking time out to relax while in Australia.

The linen range has been created as part of a business relationship between Presley, 60, and Sydney-raised designer Bruno Schiavi.

Her role as a designer is Presley's latest professional incarnation.

Divorced from Elvis in 1973, she has followed career paths as a television and film actress, author and businesswoman.

Since 1984, Presley has lived with Brazilian writer-director Marco Garibaldi, with whom she has a son.

Her credits include the Naked Gun movie series and a role in the cult television show Melrose Place.

I know this news has nothing to do with Elvis but on a more general scope, Don Knotts was/is part of American pop culture just like Elvis. Knotts played many beloved characters, like Mr. Firley-the landlord on Three's Company, but is best known as Barney Fife on The Andy Griffith Show.

I adored watching Don Knotts on Andy Griffith. I LOVE that show. And I also enjoyed him on Three's Company. So hearing about his passing makes me sad. I grew up watching those sitcoms and he brought laughter into our home many a night.

Rest in Peace Barney.

PRESS RELEASE:

Elvis Presley's Horn Section Joins John Krondes and The Elvis 'Hit Making Team' In Historical Recording Project

Shock waves continue to travel through the Elvis world as the Elvis Horns team with John Krondes and the dream lives on.

Los Angeles, CA; New York, NY (PRWEB) February 24, 2006 -- Music fills the air again, trumpets are sounding and resonating across the oceans and the dream lives on! In Rip Van Winkle like fashion, the world's music fans are waking up after a 29-year dark songless nightmare to the new day. Along with the rise of the sun over the horizon, this new day begins with the ascension of the Elvis "Hit Making Team".

The day the music died August 16, 1977, the passing of Elvis Presley, many experts believe the era of good music and song expired with him. Believe it or not, this New Day has risen with a complete Elvis Revival. For the very first time since 1977, virtually all of Elvis Presley's original "Hit Team" and music entourage have somehow or another found their way back together again in the studio in an earth-shaking project.

Beginning with "The End", a beautiful new recording by John Krondes and The Jordanaires of the song Elvis sang to his future wife Priscilla on the night they met, has come a fresh start. This new dawning is being looked at as a second chance for popular song.

John Krondes, the young singer/songwriter has awoke to find himself as well in the midst of this magical dreamland turned Reality. This state of actuality is a new beginning for music. For the last two years, the gates of Rock 'n Roll Heaven have called together again just about all of Elvis Presley's "original" music making unit. John Krondes and the Jordanaires along with the rest of the Elvis "Hit Making Team" are just a few months shy of delivering the first compilation of new recordings by the E.P. Music Operation in nearly 30 years.

The "Hit Making Team" with John Krondes includes the TCB Band, Elvis Presley's Memphis Studio Band "The Memphis Boys", Jordanaires, Sweet Inspirations, Millie Kirkham, D.J. Fontana, Original Elvis Composers, producers, arrangers, additional Elvis musicians, Joe Esposito and now the Elvis Horns.

Sounding a bit like the Aloha from Hawaii concert, players from the Aloha Section and Las Vegas Hilton horn sections, along with trumpeter Jack Feierman from the '68 Comeback Special shook the walls of Westlake Recording in Los Angeles with that sweet familiar sound. Elvis Presley's Leading Brass men rose to the occasion and joined the reunion, further completing the Elvis circle and dream come true for music fans. Leading the way are Walt Johnson (Elvis' lead Trumpet), Sam Cernuto (Elvis' Lead Trombone) and Marty Harrell (Elvis' Bass Trombone).

Deja Vu, paramnesia, magic, illusionistic, entrancing....Yeah, that's it, supernaturally cool! Fans and experts alike are still scratching their heads wondering how this is all possible. Well, the best answer we have is call Rock 'n Roll Heaven and speak with John Belushi (President of The Rock 'n Roll Commission), he has the score. Note, If AT&T is too costly from your area, try the Ouija Board.

What is earthly tangible regarding John Krondes and The Elvis "Hit Making Team" is some real powerful new music that makes you feel good and tingles the senses. As fanciful a tale as it may seem, this reunion with the Presley Hit Makers and John Krondes is real, ready and rockin' radio around the sublunary world.

"The End" and "Vegas In The Morning" by John Krondes and The Jordanaires with the "Hit Making Team" is readily available at Amazon.com and other major internet retailers. For download junkies, we are ipod ready at ITunes, Emusic, MSN Music and Real Networks. Click the following link to download "The End" at ITunes: http://tinyurl.com/rqsgv.

Welcome to the "New Day" where the Magic of Elvis' Music Is Back!.... And just remember fans, "The End" is just the beginning!

CKX, Inc. Meets With Memphis Officials to Discuss Enhancing Graceland
Thursday February 23, 4:50 pm ET

Company looks to preserve Elvis Presley's historic home, while adding to visitors' experiences and the Memphis economy

NEW YORK, Feb. 23 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Capitalizing on the ever-growing national and international fascination with Elvis Presley, CKX, Inc. (Nasdaq: CKXE - News) -- which controls Elvis Presley Enterprises and substantially all assets comprising the Presley estate -- has held meetings with prominent Memphis, Tennessee officials to explore ways to expand upon and further promote the legacy of the King of Rock and Roll.

With Graceland already the most visited private residence in America, the discussions have focused on CKX's desire to grow the Graceland experience as the centerpiece of the Whitehaven section of Memphis. While plans and designs have not been finalized, CKX outlined significant aspects of the proposal to officials.

Robert F.X. Sillerman, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of CKX, commented, "As we are upon the 50th anniversary of Elvis Presley's explosion into our culture, it is only fitting that Graceland assumes an even more prominent role in American culture and tourism."

Working in conjunction with Bob Weis Design Island Associates, a world-renowned design firm, the goal is to enhance the visitor's experience in the area surrounding Graceland while preserving the integrity of the original mansion.

"For years, Elvis Presley Enterprises and the Presley family have envisioned a project like this," said Jack Soden, Chief Executive Officer of Elvis Presley Enterprises. "We are thrilled to be able to move this concept forward."

Sillerman added, "To date, Elvis's fans have only seen a small fraction of the hundreds of thousands of Elvis artifacts currently warehoused. We're thrilled that beginning next month, with the Elvis '56 and Elvis After Dark exhibits and continuing through the proposed expansion, fans will have the opportunity to view more and more of this never-before-seen array of items."

The Elvis '56 exhibit is part of Graceland's year-long celebration of the 50th anniversary of the year Elvis Presley's career exploded and the music and popular culture of the world changed forever. The exhibit highlights his historic television appearances, his memorable concerts, his first mega-hit recordings, his first movie, the introduction of the big business of Elvis merchandising, and the first home his success allowed him to purchase for his family.

The Elvis After Dark exhibit is themed around that fact that, for much of his life, Elvis Presley was a "night person." After the sun went down, he'd go on after-hours shopping sprees at department stores; rent out the Memphis Fairgrounds as his own personal amusement park; turn the Memphian movie theater into a private screening room for himself and his friends; host parties at home and at local clubs; or schedule late-night appointments with his jeweler. In short, he made Memphis his nighttime playground.

About CKX

CKX, Inc., a company controlled by Robert F.X. Sillerman and affiliates, is engaged in the ownership, development and commercial utilization of entertainment content. To date, CKX has focused on acquiring globally recognized entertainment content and related assets, including the rights to the name, image and likeness of Elvis Presley and the operations of Graceland. CKX has also acquired proprietary rights to the IDOLS television brand, including the American Idol series in the United States and local adaptations of the IDOLS television show format which, collectively, air in over 100 countries around the world. CKX plans to continue to make strategic acquisitions of, or partner or align with, companies or individuals that control various forms of established entertainment content, which may include intellectual property rights in music, film, television programming, written works and characters, rights to names, images and likenesses, video games, corporate brands and other related assets For more information about CKX, Inc., visit its corporate website at http://www.ckx.com.

once a classic... [Feb. 17th, 2006|12:35 am]

If it worked once, why not try again?

MUSIC stars love to do new versions of old hits, but sometimes they also like to do covers of, well, album covers.

Elvis Presley's debut album for RCA Records was a rush job — it was 1956, and no one was sure that this new hubbub called "rock 'n' roll" would last long. But its distinctive cover caught the imagination of a generation with its energy and style.

Its intrigue has aged well — the Clash copped the lettering and black-and-white performance photo for "London Calling," a 1979 album that made a good bit of rock history on its own by upping the ante for punk rock.

The Clash cover (a Pennie Smith photo showing the band's Paul Simonon smashing his bass) was in turn given homage last year on "Tony Hawk's American Wasteland," a CD that has as much to do with skateboarding as with guitar amps.

Next up: k.d. lang's new CD, "Reintarnation," which shows that old RCA Elvis photo remains the once and future king of album motifs. The title of the April 25 release, by the way, is a neologism for finding oneself "reincarnated as a hillbilly," according to lang's record label. But don't mention that to Elvis.

Saving the Elvis of endangered species

Robin D Schatz ,bloomberg
The California condor is ``the Elvis Presley of endangered species,'' quips John Nielsen in his new book ``Condor: To the Brink and Back -- The Life and Times of One Giant Bird'' (HarperCollins, 257 pages, $25.95). Like Elvis, the giant vulture with the 9 1/2-foot wingspan is both worshipped and despised, according to Nielsen.
The bird also has a ``wicked mating dance,'' he writes, ``and it's not really dead.'' Nielsen, the environment correspondent for National Public Radio, blends humour,...

The bride's mother, Priscilla Presley, walked her daughter down the aisle and gave her away. The bride's father, rock 'n' roll legend Elvis Presley, died in 1977.

Lockwood was Lisa Marie Presley's musical director and is listed as executive producer on her 2005 album Now What.

"Elvis" actor Jonathan Rhys Meyers in Vanity Fair:

THE IT BOY :: Jonathan Rhys Meyers, Actor. Twenty-three films; one Golden Glove (Elvis, 2006). Fans of the talented, pillow-lipped Jonathan Rhys Meyers have been waiting for him to arrive on a grand scale since he had a small but memorable part as the assassin of the hero in Michael Collins (1996). The Dublin-born Rhys Meyers has hooked up with some big-name directors since then, but not for their most successful efforts. When he worked for Todd Haynes, who would go on to make the sublime Far from Heaven (2002), it was in the underappreciated Velvet Goldmine (1998). Under the lens of Ang Lee, he made the little-seen Civil War drama Ride with the Devil (1999). With Oliver Stone, it was Alexander (2004). Along the way he had better luck, playing a soccer coach in the sleeper hit Bend It Like Beckham (2002), and he certainly turned heads in taking on the titular role of the 2005 CBS mini-series Elvis. Best and unlikeliest of all, he matched up with Woody Allen for Match Point (2005), the best Woody Allen movie in ages. He slipped effortlessly into a great part, playing a charming but oily tennis pro who insinuates himself into a posh family. Rhys Meyers has at last found himself in the right place at the right time.

Well, look no further. They have their own web site! :)

Grab a cup of hot tea, hot chocolate, or coffee even and curl up in your chair and blanket and get ready to learn about the Humes Alumni gang and read all thier memories, including many about fellow classmate ELVIS PRESLEY ("I have in my office right now a magazine rack that Elvis and I made together in woodshop. So, I do remember Elvis but no more than I remember Jimmy Music, Billy Leaptrott, L. D. Ledbetter, Billie Mae Chiles or Rose Howell...")

In honor of Valentine's Day:

Ladies,

Ever wanted to know how Elvis was on a date?

Just ask Actress Connie Stevens, as Larry King did in a 2003 interview:

KING: He was a good date, though?

STEVENS: Lot of fun. Oh, he was great date and he was a great kisser. And he -- it was just that face. That face! He'd give you the lip and the eye, and you were a dead duck, let me tell you!

Elvis wigs can be good, but the bad ones...they can be well, bad. Very bad.

Note to the fella who tries to get the Elvis look with faux follicles: Ax the exagerrated pompadour and try doing things the old fashioned way. Here's a style tip from Wikipedia:

"A pompadour is often created by combing the sides of the hair back, while fanning the top of the hair forward and curling over itself. There are numerous ways to sculpt a pompadour. Some only curl the front few inches of their hair up, while others comb their hair back and use their hands to "push" it into it's desired place. Occasionally hair is kept relatively short and cut into the desired look, and pompadours are created through standing the hair straight up, retaining a "spiked" quality. Variations on exact style vary from a straight front to a more rounded and organic look. The quiff also exists, as a product of the Psychobilly movement. This is most easily described as a mohawk styled into a pompadour.

Often many hair care products are employed in the creation of a pompadour. Commonly seen are wax and gel pomades, held in high regard for their durability. Sometimes, they are created solely with the use of hair spray, hair gel, or even glue."

George Jefferson's neighbor has moved to that big de-luxe apartment in the sky...

Franklin Cover, who became a familiar face as George and Louise Jefferson's white neighbor in the long-running TV sitcom "The Jeffersons," has died from pneumonia, his publicist said Thursday. He is survived by his widow, Mary, a son and a daughter. He was 77.

During the 1970s, "The Jeffersons" ranked high among Elvis Presley's favorite tv sitcoms.
